Job description
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal / Senior Data Architect with deep expertise across the Microsoft data ecosystem, Microsoft Fabric, and Databricks to lead the design and evolution of our enterprise data platform. In this strategic, hands-on role, you will shape our data architecture vision, govern best practices, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable scalable, secure, and future-proof data solutions.
Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the enterprise-wide data architecture strategy, standards, governance framework, and multi-year technology roadmap.
- Lead the design and implementation of modern, scalable, and secure data platforms, with primary focus on Azure cloud services, Microsoft Fabric, and Databricks.
- Architect end-to-end data ingestion, transformation, storage, real-time processing, and governance solutions that are performant, maintainable, and cost-effective.
- Drive adoption and deep integration of Microsoft Fabric capabilities (Data Engineering, Data Warehouse, Real-Time Intelligence, Data Science, Power BI, and Copilot AI) across the organization.
- Partner closely with engineering, analytics, data science, and business stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into robust, future-proof technical designs.
- Provide technical leadership in evaluating, selecting, and prototyping emerging tools, technologies, and architectures; proactively propose innovative solutions and use cases (e.g., GenAI/Copilot integrations) that advance organizational data maturity.
- Demonstrate strong self-driven initiative by continuously scanning the industry landscape for trends, opportunities, and risks, and turning insights into actionable architectural recommendations.
- Establish, promote, and enforce enterprise data best practices, including data modeling conventions, metadata management, data lineage, quality, monitoring, security, compliance, and governance.
- Develop and maintain architecture documentation, coding standards, design patterns, and reference implementations to ensure consistency and quality across all data initiatives.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical scope, assess solution feasibility, and provide accurate effort estimations for strategic programs and projects.
- Mentor engineering teams, influence architectural decisions enterprise-wide, and serve as the ultimate technical authority on data platform direction.
- Ensure all solutions meet or exceed organizational standards for security, regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and performance at scale.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in data architecture, enterprise data engineering, or related fields.
- Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Azure data services (Azure SQL, Synapse, ADLS, ADF, Purview) and Microsoft Fabric.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks (Lakehouse, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Spark, SQL, Python).
- Proven experience designing large-scale, distributed data systems and modern data lakehouse architectures.
- Deep understanding of data modeling (Kimball, Data Vault, dimensional, semantic modeling) and Fabric’s OneLake architecture.
- Strong command of security, governance, data integration, MDM, and metadata management concepts.
- A proactive, self-driven mindset with a passion for discovering new data opportunities, validating innovative concepts, and driving continuous improvement.
- Ability to lead technical strategy, influence stakeholders, and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Experience in highly regulated or data-intensive industries is a plus.
