Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Senior Data Team Lead to establish and manage our new Data & Insights Team. This is a foundational role responsible for architecting our data infrastructure, ensuring data quality, and transforming this massive, privacy-first stream of raw intent signals into actionable business intelligence that drives our product and client success.

Responsibilities

You will be the first dedicated data leader, responsible for building a robust data ecosystem. You will lead a small team (initially 2 members) and work cross-functionally with 20+ developers (Backend, Frontend, ML, DevOps) to standardize our data pipelines and elevate our analytical capabilities, leveraging our existing proprietary ETL/ELT service.

  • Data Architecture & Engineering (The Foundation)
  • Data Warehouse (DWH) Leadership: Define the target data architecture and implement a scalable DWH using AWS S3 and Athena over Parquet files, ensuring high performance for analytical queries.
  • Pipeline Development (ETL/ELT): Lead the design, development, and maintenance of resilient data transformation logic using Python and Apache Spark (via AWS EMR) for data from source databases (MySQL, Scylla DB, MongoDB) and external APIs/logs.
  • Proprietary Service Integration: Deeply integrate the Data & Insights team’s work with the in-house ETL/ELT orchestration service. This includes providing input on service features, consuming its data hooks, and ensuring data quality controls are built into the pipelines managed by the service.
  • Data Modelling: Apply dimensional modelling (Kimball) techniques to structure data for optimal consumption by BI tools and the Internal Platform (LIIFTTM).
  • Business Intelligence & Data Quality (The Insight Layer)
  • BI Delivery: Oversee the provision of data to key stakeholders through BI platforms, including managing and optimizing connections for Tableau and PowerBI.
  • Custom Analysis: Collaborate directly with Client Success and Development teams to provide custom reports, deep-dive analysis, and insights into key performance indicators (KPIs), user behaviour, and platform performance.
  • Anomaly & Trend Detection: Proactively identify significant data trends, shifts, and non-standard data behaviours.
  • Team Leadership & Strategy
  • Team Management: Recruit, mentor, and lead the Data & Insights team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, data accuracy, and business alignment.
  • Strategic Planning: Define the roadmap for data capabilities, including initial exploration and strategy for integrating AI/ML concepts into data analysis workflows.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary technical interface between the Data & Insights Team and the wider Engineering and Business teams.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, or Analytics.
  • Expert Proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Deep hands-on experience with the Core Stack:
  1. Cloud: AWS services (S3, EMR).
  2. Processing: Apache Spark.
  3. DWH: AWS Athena and Parquet file optimisation.
  • Strong Data Modelling expertise (Dimensional Modelling).
  • Proven ability to integrate data from diverse sources (Relational like MySQL, NoSQL like MongoDB/ScyllaDB).

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in a technical leadership, team lead, or managerial role.
  • Proficiency with major BI tools (Tableau and/or PowerBI).
  • Experience working with large-scale log data or real-time streaming data.
  • Background in AI/ML model deployment or MLOps, particularly using Python ML libraries.
